Sjáumst síðar 2013

Five events that have been the best this year?
Visiting Iceland with the greatest people in the world

Moving back to Long Island to live with my boyfriend near the beach and buying a proper couch
Getting a promotion at my job
Swimming in Tulum, Mexico and getting sea-salty kisses from Rich
A reunion with my oldest friends for the 4th of July

Five events that have been the worst this year?
Working late approximately 95% of the spring and summer
Fighting with Rich about stupid things
Our upstairs neighbors are beasts, and its the biggest pitfall of this wonderful apartment
My OCD, which was finally diagnosed properly, was a raging mess this year but I'm getting help and am doing much better
Getting my wisdom teeth out and getting an exposed nerve

What have you learned this year?
Ask for help when you need it and then accept it

Was it the year that you had in mind?
No, not at all. If last January you had told me that I would have the saddest and most stressful year of my life and then move to Long Beach and things would get better, I'd never believe you

What clothes did you wear the most?
A brown and white striped American Apparel dress that I lived in all summer and would wear at least twice a week: Once for work and just about every Saturday. Also, my brown cord skirt from AA.

What music did you listen to the most?
Plaid Dragons: Bird Years
Crystal Fighters: At Home
Wild Cub: Thunder Clatter
M. Ward: One Hundred Million Years
T Rex: Bang a Gong (Get it on)

What have you watched? (Film, television, comics ..)
New Girl remains one of my favorites because I want Jess's wardrobe, to make out with Nick, and to party with Winston, Schmidt and Fergus. Last year it was all Netflix because I didn't have cable. Rich insisted we have it and I love watching HGTV and Discovery Channel.
I thought the best movies I saw for the first time this year were:
Safety Not Guaranteed and Dear Lemon Lima

Which people do you hang with the most?
All the usual suspects!

What is the best thing you've read?
I re-visited a lot of old favorites like Austen, Tolkien and Susanna Clark's Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It was very busy and stressful this year, which sucked because I love to read. Before seeing the movie, I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, it made me miss my Rocky Horror days and being a teenager. I've got a lot of reading goals for next year, so please bring on any suggestions!

Best meal?
Grilled fish tacos with mango margaritas with chips and salsa. Rich and I were in Mexico and we took a long walk in the sun and we stepped into a pretty hotel with big glass windows open to the breeze called Amansala. We went back again the next day it was so good.

Did you do anything this year that you've never done before?
Moved in with my boyfriend. Hiked on a glacier. Did the Brooklyn Color Run.

Did some of your friends become parents this year?
No one extremely close to me, but a lot of Facebook friends did.

What was your biggest achievement in 2012?
Realizing I was unhappy and making moves to fix it.

Best bargain?
My Madewell tote bag I carry every single day to work. It was such a bargain considering how I (ab)use it, and lucky for me I bought it during a sale.

What did you spend the most money on?
Excursions in Iceland and furniture for our new apartment

What you wish you'd done more?
Seen my friends more, gone out more and been social rather than being a creepy hermit girl

Favorite Video of the Year?
Robyn: Call Your Girlfriend as covered by Taran Killam. It makes me laugh so hard my sides hurt because its so perfect and I've definitely tried to do the dance alone in my apartment.

What did you do on your birthday in 2013?
It was in Tulum, Mexicowith Rich where we woke up with the sun, swam in the ocean, ate fish tacos and paletas. We had a beautiful dinner and went to sleep just after sundown. It was so simple and so perfect.

How would you describe your style in 2012?
Simplified. I'm trying to edit my wardrobe down to wonderful things I really love.

Last years list here!

  3. Yay I liked reading this. I have so many reading suggestions!! I've read a lot of great stuff lately. We should have an email based book club or something. That would be fun. I miss our Jane Austen emails of old.

Your year was quite the intense one. I'm so glad things are better now that you're on Long Island with Rich. You dealt with a lot this year, but if anyone's kick-ass enough to get through it all it's you! <3
