And away we go

As a little girl I used to go to the Outerbanks in North Carolina with my dad and I remember once very specific outfit from when I was about 8 or 9. Denim overalls that were super thin and soft and I wore them just about every day with a Marvin the Martian tee shirt. The best part was that in the overalls, all you saw was the top of Marvin's head and his eyes. I was painfully cool, obviously.
For someone with hips and a butt, the denim shorts thing is hard to pull off (and give up). There's really no chance I'll ever find a pair of denim overall shorts that actually works for me as well as they did back then, so luckily I have my linen romper in my closet that does the trick! Here's how I kicked off my vacation in an outfit that would have made my 8-year-old self proud. Too bad I couldn't dig up that tee shirt, but then again you earthlings probably wouldn't be able to handle it.
Rich was kind enough to snap my pictures at a beach we stopped at on the drive out to Southold.
Lark and Wolff romper, Target striped tee, Saltwater sandals, Juicy Daisy necklace, vintage locket

  3. I love the romper!  I hear you on denim shorts... they just don't look right on my thighs... but rompers are another story and I love this one!

  4. The playful romper with the striped tee is a delightful echo of our youth.  You look so cute.

I used to vacation in the Outer Banks back then, around the same time.  Maybe we walked past each other.  Life is full of unexpected coincidences.

I struggle with denim shorts too much to the dismay of my much slimmer thighed inner child! I love this romper though and the striped tee ups the fun factor even more :) Have a lovely holiday.

  9. Ahh!  I had a Marvin the Martian tee shirt & Tweety Bird denim overalls!  They were the best!  You look awesome like a l w a y s.  These photos make me miss the September vacations in Montauk we always took when I was younger...

  11. I think this outfit is perfect for where you went. Speaking of overalls, I've been on a quest myself looking for a pair that has skinny legs (although I don't even think this exists at the thrift stores, baggy xxl overalls were so hip during the 90s...gah!).

  14. lady i lovvveee this. Not only did you kill this look but you look so carefree and happy. The reference to when you are little was awesome, i have such a soft spot for storys like that.

Dolce vita boots have changed my life. Tell your friend she has to get them. They are soooo comfortable... I seriously haven't taken them off.  They are if anything a little little on the large size but I have pretty narrow feet so that might be it.

Aw, this is so cute. I love rompers! I used to absolutely live in overalls when I was little and I've still got a pair that come out on occasion when I'm feeling nostalgic.

  18. I love this! It's so beach appropriate. I've always wanted to go to the Outer Banks. I'll make it there some day.

I was TOTALLY into overalls when I was little, and would definitely layer them with whatever crazy graphic tee I was into at the time. I was not cool enough to have a Marvin the Martian one, though. Haha
