This isn't the only reason I like them, but my moms dislike might be part of the appeal. Its my own decision if I wear what is essentially a dress with a crotch sewn in. Perfect for cartwheels and sitting cross-legged in my chair at work. Of course I want her approval, but also my independence. Its a strange line to walk and extends to things far more complicated than clothes.
This morning she complimented my outfit saying that the sweater layer helped make it work appropriate, so maybe we're we're doing a good job on that front.
On the other hand sometimes she just tells me whats best for me, and it turns out she's right. I hated this bag when I saw it, but she insisted on giving it to me for my birthday. The hardware and the bright blue together looked odd. Thank goodness she still knows whats best sometimes otherwise I wouldn't have the perfect work bag. People even compliment it on the street!

That bag really is a great basic, but with a fun color! I love the romper you're wearing and how you paired a sweater over it. I love how cute rompers can be, but greatly dislike maneuvering myself out of one to go to the bathroom. haha
ReplyDeleteThat romper looks good, liked the idea with a sweater on top of it. And I know what you mean with mums disapproval. My mother is just like that also, but she says out load what she don't like in the way I am dressing. Like a few days ago, she screamed "Oh my, have you seen yourself in a mirror!". I had not, and it turned out to be horrible. But the day after she really liked my matching outfit and details, and I felt like a grandmother.
ReplyDeleteBut good tip from your mum, that blue bag is something that would do well to so many diffrent outfits, and add some fun to a boring one. Love it!
Hahaha I know that mum-sound all too well!! You look lovely and I agree that the knit makes it more work appropriate! xx
ReplyDeleteHaha! I moved out many years ago but when I went to visit my mom last weekend and it was raining like crazy on the day I was supposed to go back, she took a look at me in my dress, tights and ballerinas and would stop bugging me until she had fitted me out with her own clothes and shoes. Mothers...
ReplyDeleteI think you look absolutely lovely!
you look lovely, my mum sometimes does that sort of thing too, with a raised eyebrow.. but generally she thinks I'm "stylish" so it's ok :p The jumper definitely dressers the romper up a little! xx
ReplyDeleteThat bag is the perfect pop of color! I love it.
ReplyDeleteThat sweater is indeed lovely over the romper. I love collars peeping out!
ReplyDeletehaha! My mom does the same thing to me, even my dad sometimes, but more discreet! Once I left the house in this weird romper that I sewed from an old dress and it did look a little weird, I admit! And my dad called my mom and said I don't really know what she is wearing, but she just left... lol too funny! ;)

I've use to have the same problem with my mom. But now I wear what I want and sometimes, I also dress my mom... ahahaha You're great.

My mother has the same reaction when I wear a romper out of the house. She told me I looked like a big baby, but in a cute way, which wasn't much consolation. Anyway, I really love this look. I've never seen a romper look so classy!
ReplyDeleteYou look so stylish! I love your combination! Your bag and loafers are lovely:) My mom does exactly the same...:)
ReplyDeleteFollowing you now on Bloglovin and Google, I would love it if you followed me back!

You're right -- it's a delicate dance daughters do to have peace with their mothers. And most moms don't seem shy about expressing their judgments, even non-verbally. Your story is amusing.
ReplyDeleteAs independent adults, we're entitled to make our own decisions on what we wear. Rompers are super-cute and very chic at this moment, so maybe older women aren't hip to that right now. And, besides, they are too often concerned with social propriety -- a force of conformity that diminishes individual freedom.
Haha, I know what you mean, I can tell if my mom dislikes something just by looking at her!

You look great! I would wear that romper for sure. I also love the vintage shoes...those are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI do love the look of a sweater over a great collared. Your outfit is absolutely adorable! I love the pops of colour in the accessories too.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Sabrina
Haha, I live at home, too, and I do get the comments/mom noises. I know exactly what you mean! Although, I've found that since I started a blog she seems to be less critical. As if the fact that I started a blog (which anyone can do) makes me more of an authority (which I'm not), and maybe I might know what I'm doing (which...I don't). Oh, moms! Gotta love 'em!
ReplyDeletedrooliong over your bag! so perfect x
ReplyDeleteThe romper is super cute, no matter what your Mum thinks. I also love that big blue bag it's perfect.
ReplyDeletehello!!!! :) I was so excited when I saw this post.
ReplyDeleteYour wee romper is just darling, I could live in rompers.
Your mom was right about the blue bag.....the shade is perfect!

ReplyDeleteyou look great in this romper! i like it! it looks especially darling with the sweater! and i said it before but i do adore your bag! the color is awesome!
Mum's do usually know what is best, even to sometimes take a little of their advice and mix it with ones own !
ReplyDeleteMy mom is like that sometimes. And it really bothers me too. But the truth is, she´s the mom, and is, quite often, right. The romper is really cute, and I can tell why you like it so much. It must be really confortable. And that bad is amazing. I love the color, the shape; it´s just so pretty.
ReplyDeletefantastic blog, and great polka dot shorts. love is, so now i am following you!

I don't live with my parents anymore but my mum still criticized everything. I. Wear. Anything that is different to what girls wear at our local shopping centre, she'll think is weird and out there. It's so frustrating it makes me avoid seein her, eep!
ReplyDeleteI think you look adorable, and the romper suits you!
Heh ; )
ReplyDeleteMoms are like that, aren't they?
mum doesn't always know best - rompers are amazing! i do like this one layered with your sweater though :) x

My mom used to say that when I was married and still into wearing immodest clothing. haha. Now all she does it compliment my clothes and way of dress. Funny moms. You look so cute with your loafers and shorts.
ReplyDeleteThat bag is gorgeous. The whole outfit is beautiful. xxx
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute I love this outfit. the sweater looks super cute over it:)
ReplyDeletemother's approvals aren't always easy to get out, my mother recently told me "I really don't like what your wearing" and I begged to politely differ. I like the layered romper and those loafers! glad she liked it in the end.
ReplyDeleteAwesome bag :)
ReplyDeleteMy Mom used to be very passive aggressive about outfits she didn't like making it clear (in a roundabout way) that I looked old, fat and ugly. Sounds like, although you have your style differences the two of you have a healthier way of agreeing to disagree. Mind you, my style must be moving in my Mom's direction, over the past year she has spoken favourable of my choices and there have been no "embarassments" like that one time I turned up at the airport in striped knee highs and she nearly cried she hated it so much. :D
