Fourth of July celebratory fireworks started one night early at Rich's friends barbecue. Hands down one of my favorite aspects of this holiday is the fireworks, sparklers, bottle rockets, you name it. Watching the colors and the burning light shoot up into the night sky is magical. There used to be a big fancy professionally done show done every year at Jones Beach State Park, but since they cut funding everyone just relies on each other to supply the entertainment. I think this is way better. Here are some of the pictures I took until I realized how handy my tripod would have been. Ah well, all in the moment.
Man, I'm so jealous. My family/friends aren't into fireworks, so I've never gotten to play around with sparklers. Boo! These photos are so fun, though!
Aww, fun!! You guys are lucky fireworks are legal in your area (if they are). They were outlawed all over Southern California several years ago, and it totally took the fun out of the 4th around here. There are professional shows, but there's nothing like playing with fire!
Ah, I'd love to play around with sparklers! I never got the chance...and I feel like my inner child fear will attack me and say I'll burn my head off or something. haha Love that you had a great time!
your 4th looks fantastic! glad you enjoyed yourself, too bad we can't see your surely adorable outfit! -Kati http://secondhandfantasyland.blogspot.com/
That guy in the second picture looks like he has ultraviolet light coming out of his ear! I'll leave you guys to your mini-fireworks; I'm just glad I survived Sant Joan here without getting blown up my come idiots and their home made contraptions. ; D
P.S. Love that you translated to celcius for me. ; )
yeah. Very Young Girls is a very good documentary. I haven't seen it in a couple years now but what really gets me about that is they actually have video footage taken by pimps and you see the way they scope out little girls and how they treat them. That was the most crazy thing!!! I think they have it on instant play on netflix now, but maybe not? I saw it online when it came out and don't remember where that was, although it was created by GEMS Girls which is an organization in NYC as a safehouse for girls who came out of prostitution. If you need any book recommendations let me know. I've read over 30 human trafficking books. The best one to start off on I think is Not For Sale by David Batstone.
Wow, you really celebrate your national day well. Here, we only had a national day for 6 years, so we don't really know what to do, except putting up lots of flags and sing the national anthem together, Midsummer is bigger here.
Kallie these look awesome! I actually miss setting off our own fireworks but we are pretty broke so we skipped it. This looks like it was a lot of fun! Haha, I will help you steal that gnome!
