A good Theory

This blazer might be one of my greatest finds ever. In a pale khaki color, slightly oversized and it only cost $20. It's also by Theory and was originally $228 which is far out of my clothing budget. Do you ever find something in a store (like Marshall's or TJMaxx) and its absolutely perfect, but it isn't your size? I have that happen a lot, and sometimes like in this case being a bit oversized gives it a 90's vibe. Otherwise, bringing it to the tailor is an option to consider. Mass produced clothes are made in uniform sizes, and we shouldn't fit ourselves to the clothes, but fit the clothes to fit uniquely to us. I get lots of comments about readers liking the high waists or lengths of my skirts. To me its worth the investment to get it fitted to my body or the style I want to achieve especially if I buy it at a great discount or in a thrift store. That being said, I should probably drop the blazer at the tailor.

  2. It is sooo hard to pass up a nice piece at the thrift store just because it's a tad too big / small. I usally buy it thinking that, at some point, it will fit me. You look lovely in that blazer, though.

  4. Blazers are certainly one my favorite spring pieces. I love the color of this one and completely agree about getting clothes tailored. The shoulders look great but if it's taken in at the sides it will be much more flattery. I love the 90's Friends look as well.

  9. that happens to me all the time--i always see amazing clothes/shoes that are just a little too big/small and i have to resist because i know i will probably never set foot in a tailor shop as long as i live. i'm lazy like that. if i can't fix it myself i just throw up my hands. that said, i think this particular blazer looks good oversized, esp with the cuffed sleeves :)

  10. I love the preppy feel of this blazer and i think it being a little over sized looks awesome...and you can always layer it in the winter. OOh that bag, I am inlovvvee with that bag. If you ever grow tired of it...

Dude, you are completely right about mass production of clothes and making the clothes fit our bodys. I alter almost all my clothes, it was a trial and error at first, but thats the beauty of thrifting, it's not a big deal if you mess up a $2 skirt.

I work with special needs kids in an after school program, so I can pretty much wear what ever I like which is awesome and I get summers off :)

  13. I like that you take your clothes to be tailored... I've only had a dress shortened so far, but I agree that all our clothes should fit us better than they do. That was a great find!

  14. You do look a bit (or more than a bit, but in a good way!) 90's with that backpack and oversized blazer, so cute, And I agree, I would rather get something I really like that it doesn't fit the way you want and alter it to be perfect on you, I've done it before, especially with vintage items and I agree it turns your style a lot more personal than the mass produced clothes.

  16. ohh you look lovely in that top hun!

guhh nothing ever fits me right because i'm so disproportionate. sucks. i have no money to get things altered, although i do rely on my mom to alter things for me haha. even if it'll take her months to get done.
