Looking back on my trip to Turkey, it seems like I spent most of my time eating.
I had no idea how much I'd love Turkish food.
Breakfast was my favorite meal because its pretty much what I eat at home: olives, cheese, bread, hard boiled eggs and tea. For lunch I was in love with mixed pancakes, which was a thin bread with meat, cheese and spinach inside or these delicious buns that street vendors sold on corners. Dinner was usually kebabs form the hostel at 5 Lira each (read: really cheap) with spicy mayo. This usually led to drinking Tuborg beers at the bar and hanging out with the riff raff. Oddly enough the bartender/cook was an American staying in the hostel for awhile, and he had been a student around the same time as me at Penn State.
One of my favorite places we went was the Egyptian Bazaar or the spice market. We had to go there twice because once just wasn't enough. One visit was to stock up on candy and olives, and then back again to buy Turkish delight and spices. While we were wandering around on the second trip we stumbled across a refrigerator window with meat on metal spits lined up inside. We pointed, the man inside smiled and we walked into this tiny Turkish restaurant for kebab cooked over coals. It was spicy, delicious and cheap. My mouth is watering thinking of all the amazing food.
vacations are always full of eating! haha i know it's always what i do. =D these are really awesome pictures!
