I just had a very long weekend and needed to take a blogging break. Its really important to step back from things and re-think them for a few days. Between being really busy catching up with friends, and especially catching up on sleep, the blog took a back seat. This gave me some time to think about where I want to take Happy, Honey and Lark and I have some exciting things coming up. I am really going to try to make my outfit pictures better. Back when my blog didn't have many followers I didn't care if my pics were rushed, but now I am really conscious of it. Taking indoor shots can be really hard because of lighting and the fact that there isn't really much space inside to take them, but I think its important to improve. Here is what I wore today (and the photos that got me thinking that I need to take better shots). Its sort of silly, but I'm currently very stressed by the fact that you can't tell my boots are brown* or see the vibrant colors in the tunic**. Perhaps this can be my New Year's resolution since I never made one: improve photographs of outfits!*edit:when I got to work and checked the pictures they looked completely different, then I realized that I need to make the screen brighter on my laptop...DERR *headsmack*.
**I love that you guys like this tunic. Its so old, my mom used to wear it in grad school and to her African dance classes, so its got a lot of sentimental value.
I dunno what sort of camera you've got, but you seem to be using the flash (telling by the shadows...) Personally, I just think photos turn out better without.
ReplyDeleteI can tell the boots are brown, theyre really cute, as is the tunic. I agree on indoor shots though, ive done a couple on my blog and theyre never as good, unless you're lucky to have a beautiful big window that shines the sun in at the exact time you want to take your photos onto a beautiful backdrop lol. ive become a lot more conscious of the quality of my photo's lately too and really just my overall blog. anyway i went on a bit, but cant wait to see the changes :)

I know what you mean, I've started feeling like every photo shoot should be a work of art, and get irritable about the fuzzy nature of indoor light. However, I think we all deserve a bit of a break in January! It's been raining fairly constantly here...
ReplyDeleteI can tell your boots are brown, and I love your tunic! It looks a bit like a Van Gogh painting. : )
Wonderful outfit! You look great.

Have a nice day.
that sweater is very 90s grunge, I love it
ReplyDeletecute outfit, love your brown boots. I have the same problem taking photos indoor, I can never get the lighting right
ReplyDeleteI really love that long sleeved tunic - at first I thought it was a dress. If it wasn't vintage, I would be on the website in a second checking it out. Very cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteI can tell the boots are brown as well - and I love the tunic top, very colorful!

I love those boots, they are exactly what I have been hunting for recently! So cute! I love your indoor shots, I don't have good lighting in my house or a place to pose. Yours always work out so well!
ReplyDeletecolors!! I love colors~!
ReplyDeleteThe tunic is really gorgeous! Even more with that special value and history :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. :/ I've been very frustrated with how my photos have been turning out lately- and have been hesitant in putting a lot of them up. Taking shots indoors is SO hard- I have barely ZERO lighting and hardly have a flash. They always come out grainy. :/
ReplyDeleteI do love this tunic though & that's so cool that i was your mom's!
xo
PS Did I tell you I started reading Sense & Sensibility again & so far I'm loving it! I knew I needed to give it a 2nd chance. (:
ive been feeling exactly the same, when i take my own shots nothign is properly focused so you can never see the detail in things. i was reading an article on IFB about how to take better photos for your blogs, maybe you should check it out, there was a link on the home page.
ReplyDeleteAs for the colours - have you set the white balance on your camera? it will make the world of difference x
Soooooo cute dear!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tunic! And how wonderful that it has such a history :)
ReplyDeleteI love the tunic! I'm obsessing over floral prints lately. I think your pictures look wonderful. I've tried doing self-timer shots inside but I don't have a place at the height I want to put my camera and the only place to stand is in front of windows which....doesn't work at all. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI took a nice break from blogging over the weekend too. Isn't it nice coming back all refreshed and ready to roll? =]
ReplyDeleteThis tunic is sooo pretty, and the fact that is was once your ma's makes it even cooler!
xoxo mama wolf.
Love this outfit! The tunic gorgeous and I love hearing that it has sentimental value.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what's coming up for your blog!
Better pictures is a noble ambition. I've found that what makes a huge difference, especially with indoor photographs, is lighting. The pros use bright floodlights for a reason. You can pick up a spotlight or two at a hardware store at very little cost and they'll enhance the color and detail of your photos.
