This dress always reminds me of something you'd see on Little House on the Prairie, and for that very reason I often avoid wearing it to work. Tiny flowers and vines on a cotton A-line dress, it reminds me of something Melissa Gilbert wore as Laura Ingalls to go fishing in. Since I'm trying to stretch my current wardrobe as far as it will go this dress needed to be conquered. Pairing it with a large, modern looking belt was the first step to taking it from the prairie to Penn Station. My sleek Aerosoles ankle boots (read: the only shoes I've been wearing lately because schlepping for 3+ hours every day is exhausting) kept me comfy enough to hike through some leftover snow, while keeping me from looking like I was headed to the one-room schoolhouse. There you have it, a pretty basic update of a dress I'd been avoiding for awhile because I didn't want to look like I stepped out of a Michael Landon's imagination.
Thanks for all your sweet comments lately, it's taking me awhile to respond to them because there's never been quite so many!H&M dress, AA "Bordeaux" tights, F21 belt, Aerosoles boots, Kirra hat
aw, you look super cute in this dress. i dont think it looks too costumey or anything. and your hair is really cute too
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean with those prints! I think the belt, shoes, and especially the tights adds the perfect touch! I love your fairy lights, by the way :)

ReplyDeleteLove that you are using your wardrobe to it's full potential. I really need to start doing that. Some of my dresses never get any love!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the lively conversation, My best to the once and future Blowhards!
You've definitely modernized the dress with smart styling. Old fashions can be updated and used again.
ReplyDeleteYour witty wordplay (e.g., "from the prairie to Penn Station") is hugely amusing.
So...that dress looks super cute on you. You touched it up really great with the belt & the tights! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jamie up there, I don't think the dress is costumey at all. And even if it was, Little House on the Prairie is a super cute costume to be wearing! But your dress really isn't costumey, really. :) I love your tights!

I'm obsessed with prairie fashion and totally could see this being a Little House look. hehe. Beautiful outfit all around!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really cute dress - the belt totally makes it more modern and less Little House.

I love this dress, yes it is a bit country but I like that in contrast to the big city you're from and the white beret paired with it is adorable!
ReplyDeletelove that dress!
ReplyDeletei love little house on the prairie (the books and the tv show). i can see how that dress would remind you of it!
AHH I LOVE THIS DRESS!! It's totally something I'd wear- but then again, I pretty much live in the "little house in the big woods" not NYC. haha I really like how you styled it though. :D
ReplyDeleteAh I love this dress! I think you styled it perfectly with the belt and that hat. Great outfit girl!

Haha, I can definitely see why the dress would be prairie-esque, but I think you've effectively killed it with that belt. I'm such a fan of cranberry tights at the moment too, they're the next colour on my wishlist!
ReplyDeleteyou amplified modernity into it seamlessly. its a beautiful dress espeically what you paired it with.
ReplyDeleteahh so pretty! love the tights. and your hair is really lovely too!
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks like it would be pretty all on its own, but it looks even better with the accessories you added. Really love your tights!
ReplyDeleteYour knit hat with that dress is so near and dear to my heart. Plus the red tights. You're just too cute!
ReplyDeleteBut the dress is fabulous! And styled this way, it is world's away from Little House on the Prairie. It's amazing how a pair of tights and a belt changes the attitude of something. Thanks for the lesson--and thanks for your compliment and comment on my blog!
ReplyDeletePS: Love the Chanel look, too! xo
Great dress, and def not too Little House thanks to the tights hehe :)
