The longest night

Tonight is the longest night of the year, and we are as far from the sun as can be. There will also be a lunar eclipse for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere late tonight and early tomorrow morning; the first time this has happened on the night of the winter solstice since 1638. This will be the longest and darkest night in 372 years. Instead of hibernating I decided to dress in my finest clothes and light a candle the way people have done for thousands of years as a tradition to symbolize the earth turning back toward the sun and summer, and to brighten the darkest night of the year.
Since I never took pictures of what I wore to my company holiday party I thought that this would be the perfect chance to show you. My dress was a hand-me-down from my mom who decided that she didn't wear this Betsey Johnson dress often enough and gave it to me. Its made of soft wool and has beautifully embroidered gold and silver flowers connected by a criss-cross pattern in gold on the flounce, with gold threads running through the smocked top, and silver hardware on the matching belt. Its the perfect dress for winter celebrations.
Betsey Johnson dress handed down from mom, Hue tights, Jefferey Campbell oxfords, Marc Jacobs dove hair pin, vintage locket
PS- Just in case you were wondering about my nerd status, its at red alert (bahaha Star Trek reference), and I'm setting my alarm so that I can get up and see this rust colored moon.

  4. Beautiful! I think we get the lunar eclipse on the East Coast of Australia around 6.30pm (only for about 10-15 minutes though) - it's still daylight then so I don't think the impact will be as great. Enjoy your night!

It's cloudy and raining in California, so I can't see the Lunar Eclipse and nerd out about it. :/

  29. Kallie, thanks so so much for saying You will help me in my endeavor that I am doing concerning my outfits. Do you still have this dress at all? I'd truly love to borrow it.

If not, do you think this other dress of yours would fit even though I am smaller busted: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3392/5738064707_067500894d_b.jpg
