These were made by the artist Ben Kruisdijk, and I wanted to share how beautiful they are with you. I stumbled upon his work one day while browsing online art magazines and weheartit. Although I have a minor in Art History I find it hard to put into words why I find something beautiful, especially in art after 1600 AD. Attention in the minutest of detail has always held a soft spot for me, all the way back to VanEyck, here too the clarity with which the pictures render shapes reminds me of that. To me they are bare and have a wholesome feeling that spreads from my eyes to my whole body when I look at them.
Great post!

ReplyDeleteAlso, yes, the editorial is certainly a response to the oil spill. It's nice to see a fashion spread that connects with current issues, even if it's a little more "macabre" or inaccessible.
I love these, I used to not really like watercolor and now that I am getting older I am more fond of it. These are amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI love the one entitled "the informal atmosphere," it looks like the colours were just dropped on, very spontaneously.
