Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella.
What can I say? Her books do that to me. Every time I pick one up I need to finish it all at once even though I know the formula: Young woman in a rut- Life changing event- new man- EPIC FAIL -Discovery and revelation- Public triumph!
Though Undomestic Goddess, Can You Keep a Secret (I haven't read the Shopaholic series), and Twenties Girl are true to this the characters and stories are incredibly captivating.
Lara Lington thinks she might have lost her mind and with good reason. Her business partner has left her her to run a business she hardly knows anything about and the love of her life up dumped her, and now she's being bossed around by her recently deceased great-aunt.

Sadie Lancaster returns to haunt Lara, not as the 105 year old woman she was when she died, but as the spitfire flapper she was in 1927 with a stunning wardrobe, and shining bobbed hair. The only thing she is missing is her precious dragonfly necklace, and she can't rest in peace until she finds it.
As I said before, it follows the formula, but what I loved most about it was Sadie. She forces Lara to buy 20's clothes in vintage shops, ask handsome strangers on dates, and of course look for the necklace.
While I was reading I pictured her looking something like twenties film star Louise Brooks.

I get the same feeling with her books. Can't sleep untill I've read it. But I must say this wasn't as good as her other work. I love how she writes, but the story didn't do it for me this time. I'll just wait for her next book :) lots of love from (sunny) Brussels!
ReplyDeleteI did an all nighter with this book too!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of her books, but I remember reading a favorable review of this one, so I'll have to check it out! Looks like a perfect book to kick off the summer :)
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if I told you this before, but I love your blog. It's just so sunny, I can't help but smile when I read it!

Her books are so addictive. I read the shopaholic books so ridiculously fast; I'm pretty sure I'd finished with the entire series in just over a week, while on vacation, so you know I was doing plenty of other, time-consuming things, as well.
ReplyDeleteI have read every single one of Kinsella's books except Twenties Girl! I must go pick it up soon!
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog!
