Patiently waiting, Bethania, LK, meSaturday night I saw Brand New for the third time with Bethania & LK.
Here's the thing about Brand New, they have this pop-punk-emo stigma from the early 00's that they can't shake. Regardless of the fact that their only "emo" album was their first (Your Favorite Weapon), and since then they have only gotten darker and more experimental.
Let's consider the first two albums, Your Favorite Weapon and Deja Entendu, "old" and the most recent two, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me and Daisy, "new." The old songs have a sing-along (or scream-along) quality whereas the newer stuff is really for listening, considering and appreciating.
Perhaps my hopes were too high. They really focused on promoting Daisy, which I get. But this was a hometown crowd and it would have been nice to sing along to more than two songs. When they closed with "Seventy Times 7" and immediately started tearing down the stage, I was shaking with pent up energy.
What do to with extra energy?
Go to the local bar and play all the Brand New songs you wish you heard, alienating everyone and dancing like a maniac.
Oh, and here's what I wore
Piko1988 dress, Dolce Vita boots and I swear I have other shoes these are just comfy
